(CAD) Computer Aided Design Course Overview

The garden design industry is split on the issue of using CAD software to produce plans. One group holds the view that "only a hand drawn and coloured drawing truly allows the designer to demonstrate his or her creative individuality." An opposing group counter-claims that if other forms of applied design, such as graphic or product design, have embraced CAD and its inherent productivity gains without sacrificing creativity, why do garden designers seem to insist on a head in the sand mentality towards this evolving technology?

Pickard School of Garden Design aims to strike a balance by teaching CAD in a way that maximises productivity gains for site surveys and construction drawings, yet still allows the garden designer the creative freedom to colour, render, and present ideas in a way that is both personal and unique to them.

Many of our diploma students return to us for CAD training when their businesses have begun to expand; typically within the first year of their practice as professional garden designers.

We teach CAD using industry-standard software VectorWorks. Developed and upgraded since 1985 by Nemetschek Inc, VectorWorks is their flagship product and is one of the world's best selling CAD products - available in over 85 countries and translated in 14 languages.

We teach VectorWorks at 4 levels and each level is taught over 2 days at both our London and Bristol centres.
